a Japanese ginger:ミョウガ

This morning I planted four strains Japanese ginger called "Myouga".
Because flowerpot is too small, I will plant transfer later.
I think Japanese ginger is important seasoning of Japanese.

Historical KANA usage

Since last December, I started again to learn Japanese Historical KANA usage.
It is my second time.
When I was a middle school student, I learned it.
The reason that I started it is to teach Japanese language more easily to absolute beginners.
Of course I don't need to explain them the Historical one,but if I know the Historical one more,
it is more easy for me to teach the beginners Japanese modern language.

Japanese Shinto Shrine is a part of Animism

I'm very interested in such an animism.
Because I was born in and have grown in Japan, especially I had been affected from a kind of Classic Shinto.
My ancients had adored a gigantic stone at the Tamaki surine in ,Wakayama,Japan.
Very naturally I also have adored the one.

つまりアニミズムておもろいから、古神道について知りたい。
巨大な岩とかをご神体にして尊んできた人と、それをふつうに共有する自分自身とか
おもろい現象や。

Dear Friends of Japan Society Toyota Language Center,

Dear Friends of Japan Society Toyota Language Center,

I am saddened to announce that Reiko Sassa, long-time Director of Japan Society’s Toyota Language Center, has passed away.

Under Ms. Sassa’s leadership, the Toyota Language Center grew from a single class into one of the most respected language education programs in the nation.

Ms. Sassa joined Japan Society as Assistant Librarian in 1977. Soon after, she began to grow the organization’s modest program into a full-fledged language center. In 1982, she was appointed Language Center Coordinator and Head Librarian, and was featured in an article in The New York Times about Japanese women succeeding professionally in New York. Ms. Sassa became the Director of Toyota Language Center in 1986, when the center became an official Japan Society department. Over the years, she also continued to maintain the library’s exceptional collection of English and Japanese books.

Succeeding Ms. Sassa is Ms. Tomoyo Kamimura, former coordinator of The New School's Japanese program. Ms. Kamimura served as Interim Director of the Language Center during the summer of 2013, during Ms. Sassa’s leave of absence. She has been affiliated with the Toyota Language Center, in various capacities, since 2004. With her familiarity with the Toyota Language Center, extensive experience in language instruction and education administration, we are confident that she will continue Ms. Sassa’s legacy and maintain the Center’s reputation of excellence. For more information about Ms. Kamimura, please click here.

We will remember Ms. Sassa’s distinguished contribution to Japan Society, and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family.

Sincerely,

Motoatsu Sakurai, President
